Michelle Williams Discusses Role of Marilyn Monroe
Michelle Williams discusses playing the part of Marilyn Monroe, one of the most famous sex symbols in Hollywood, in "My Week with Marilyn."
In an interview given by The Weinstein Company, Williams explained how she portrayed the character.
"Because so many people have so many ideas about who Marilyn Monroe was and after a certain point in your research, you have to filter all the noise out and you have to pin something down and go, 'Okay, this is my Marilyn. This is the way I see her. This is the way I interpret her.' And I hope I do it justice," Williams said, KABC-TV reports.
Taking place during the summer of 1956 in the United Kingdom, "My Week with Marilyn" shows the week that Colin Clark, British writer, was Monroe's assistant while she was working on "The Prince and the Showgirl." The character of Clark is played by Eddie Redmayne.
The actress discusses the personal connection she felt towards Monroe.
"My primary association with her wasn't of the icon, it wasn't of the sort of sex symbol, it was like a girl-to-girl kind of relationship that I had," Williams said, KABC-TV reports. "I didn't feel like she was holding something above me, some sort of sexual power that I didn't understand."
