Marilyn Monroe, Lucile Ball and Judy Garland in amazing photos of stars celebrating Thanksgiving

Celebrities arguably have more to be thankful for than the average mortal on America's national celebration of gratitude, Thanksgiving, and many of them have not been shy about putting their holiday spirit on display.

From Marilyn Monroe to Babe Ruth and Lucille Ball, many of the rich and famous had at one time on another appeared on celluloid in ridiculous Pilgrim garb, posed with a live turkey or were captured jet-setting off to a Thanksgiving vacation.

Around Thanksgiving time in 1926, Yankee slugger extraordinaire Babe Ruth traveled to the turkey farm at the Davenport Hotel in Spokane, Washington, where he personally killed several gobblers for a holiday feast that was organized for orphans.

Marlene Dietrich and Carry Grant, two of Hollywood's biggest stars of the 1930s, were depicted posing amid the posifs in the garden of the S.S. Normandie as they arrived from Europe on November 22, 1938.

Two years later, I Love Lucy star and legendary comedienne Lucille Ball was photographed arriving in New York City wrapped in a luxurious fur coat on the arm of her Argentine lover and future husband Desi Arnaz just in time for Thanksgiving.

In the 1930s, Judy Garland, then-child start famous for her role as Dorothy in the immortal adaption of The wizard of Oz, got into the Thanksgiving spirit by being photographed in several holiday shots. In one, the actress is seen trying to break a comically large wishbone along with the young Mickey Rooney.

In another image, Garland posed as a Pilgrim armed with a shotgun and eyeing a plump turkey seated at her heels.

Three decades later, Marilyn Monroe reprised Garlands Thanksgiving shoot with her own twist, sporting an outfit which surely would have rubbed Puritans the wrong way.

In the playful 1950s image, the blond bombshell is seen in a boudoir-inspired version of Pilgrim garb and armed with a musket. The frightened-looking actress was depicted tentatively taking aim at a large turkey standing on a stump.
