Casting call at Midway Mall

SHERMAN --It might not make you the next Marilyn Monroe or John Wayne, but a casting call at a Midway Mall in Sherman could land you a role in one of three commercials being filmed there on Saturday.

"The commercial is mainly the awareness of the theater," said director Louis Pollaro. "A lot of people come in and they go, 'Wow, we didn't know there was a theater here.'"

Scenes will be shot inside a movie theater, at the concession stand and inside the mall.

About 50 extras are needed to play customers. The roles are unpaid.

The ads will air on televisionand are all part of an effort to increase foot traffic at the mall which has struggled to attract the crowds it used to years ago.

"That's the reason why we opened up the theater," mall manager Tabetha Snow said."We're wanting to increase our foot traffic and you know, make this a thriving place again. That's our goal."

Since the theater opened in November, Snow says its added two new restaurants to its food court.

Also, a gun and knife show this weekend is expected to attract a sold out crowd.

But while there's still a long way to go before the mall fills up again, Snow hopes having the new Midway Theaterswill mean more than just movies coming soon.

Anyone interested in being an extra in the commercials is asked to be at the Midway Mall by 11am on Saturday.
