Fight Obesity With The Marilyn Monroe Diet?
The beautiful actress Marilyn Monroe disagreed with friends who insisted that her eating habits were absolutely bizarre according to a 1952 magazine interview.
Marilyn Monroe, who famously sang Happy Birthday to JFK at Madison Square Garden, died 50 years ago this month (August 5) at age 36, was, and in many ways still is, the preeminent sex symbol of American pop culture as The Inquisitr previously reported.
So how did she stay in shape for the movies, especially in an era when diet and fitness regimens were far less advanced then they are now?
It seems that Americas hottie among other things liked her protein and hot fudge sundaes.
According to an interview that Marilyn Monroe gave to Pageant magazine in 1952, as reported by Glamours fitness blog, this is what the sultry actress would eat on a typical day (assuming this information was on the level rather than dreamed up by a studio publicist):
For breakfast, two raw eggs whipped up in a warm cup of milk, plus a multivitamin supplement. Nothing for lunch. For dinner, Marilyn Monroe would broil a steak, lamb chops, or some liver along with four or five raw carrots.
On the way home after evening acting classes, Marilyn Monroe would stop by a local ice cream parlor for a hot fudge sundae. Im sure that I couldnt allow myself this indulgence were it not that my normal diet is composed almost totally of protein foods, she told the maga! zine ten years before her death under mysterious circumstances.
Monroe, then age 26, also said she pumped iron, working out with small weights every morning for about 10 minutes. I have evolved my own exercises for the muscles I wish to keep firm, the actress told Pageant.
Many nutritionists today advocate a protein-based diet, so who knows, Marilyn Monroe may have been ahead of the curve to some extent.
For fans of the Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and Some Like It Hot star, Digicon Media is currently planning a live concert that would feature a Marilyn Monroe hologram.
