Marilyn Monroe has been selected as the icon for the 2012 Cannes Film Festival that kicks off in May, festival organisers say. A poster for the festival, which is marking its 65th anniversary this year, features a large black-and-white photo of Monroe, who died in Los Angeles in 1962 at the age of 36. Monroe is seen blowing out a candle in front of "Cannes 65" in giant letters. "The festival is a temple of glamour and Marilyn is its perfect incarnation. Their coming together symbolises the ideal of simplicity and elegance," organisers said in a statement. Acclaimed Italian actor and director Nanni Moretti will head the Cannes jury this year. LOS ANGELES: Three X-rays of Hollywood actress Marilyn Monroes chest and pelvis taken during a hospital visit have sold for more than 10 times their pre-sale estimates, earning $45,000. Auction house Juliens said the sale was part of an auction of Hollywood Legends memorabilia which took place at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas over the weekend with the X-rays expected to go for $800 to $1,200 each. The highlights of the sale had toured Ireland, Japan and China before finally going under the hammer. The Monroe X-rays came from a 1954 visit by the actress to the Cedars of Lebanon Hospital.
