Marilyn Monroe - Marilyn Monroe Coming To Cannes

The image of Marilyn Monroe will appear throughout Cannes in May during that city's 65th annual film festival. "Fifty years after her death, Marilyn is still a major figure in world cinema, an eternal icon, whose grace, mystery and power of seduction remain resolutely contemporary," the festival said in a statement as it unveiled a poster marking the upcoming event. "The Festival poster captures Marilyn by surprise in an intimate moment where myth meets reality -- a moving tribute to the [50th] anniversary of her passing, which coincides with the Festival anniversary." Unlike the art-for-art's-sake abstraction that many film festivals adhere to, Cannes is equally about art and glamour, often drawing some of Hollywood's leading stars and premiering tentpole productions. "The Festival is a temple of glamour," the Cannes statement said, "and Marilyn is its perfect incarnation."
