Toronto Rare Book Dealer Recovers Candid Marilyn Monroe Photographs Stored and Unseen for 60 Years

M. Benjamin Katz, Fine Books/Rare Manuscripts is pleased to announce an exceptional find of original color positive slides featuring the most remarkable beauty of the 20th century - Ms. Marilyn Monroe.

Recovered after over 60 years in storage, the photos show a radiant Monroe candidly captured during a rehearsal and live performance of Edgar Bergen's radio show October 26th, 1952.

The writer of the show, which featured the internationally famed Bergen and his puppet Charlie McCarthy, was Mr. Zeno Klinker. Besides being a talented writer and comedian, Mr. Klinker [for whom the character Effie Klinker was named] was also a passionate shutterbug who photographed nearly every visiting actor, actress or celebrity on the Bergen show. At this particular broadcast, which took place three months before the 1953 film Niagara launched Marilyn Monroe to stardom, Klinker had direct access to the starlet.

Absolutely ravishing and at the height of her beauty, Monroe appears to be having a sensational time. A number of group shots include Monroe, Bergen and other cast members. Klinker captured Monroe in two near identical photos in each of the 21 images to use in a stereographic-type viewer and create a 3-D effect. While there are 42 images in the collection, they are meant to create 21 'stereoviews'. The color positives have sleeves that would slip into the stereo-viewer. The pictures are not restricted for use in a stereo-viewer as they are easily convertible to any photographi! c format .
